The Vaccine Mom on the Power of Information Voices For Vaccines

Check out my article on Voices for Vaccines!!

When my daughter was born in January of 2013, I looked down at her and promised that I’d never let anything bad happen to her. Of course, I couldn’t really promise that. But, what I could do is try my best to do everything in my power to protect her from harm. She is the biggest driving force, though not the only one, in my creation of the blog The Vaccine Mom

When new parents begin their journey into vaccine research, it can be extremely difficult to sift through the information. Research shows 80% of new parents use the internet when making important parenting decisions (Kata, 2012). Vaccine choices are no exception to this trend and therefore the best method for distributing accurate vaccine information is through the internet. Social media plays a major role in decision making and the anti-vaccine movement has been using social media as a means to “scare” parents into opting out of vaccines using partial and false information (Stahl et. Al, 2016). The best way to encourage parents to vaccinate is to distribute legitimate and accurate information through avenues that will reach new parents.

Great blog – looking forward to reading more in the future! What spurred me to learn more about vaccines was when we had a small measles outbreak in our town . . . and I had a 2 month old daughter to worry about! I’m kinda a science-math nerd, so I think it’s pretty interesting just to understand how it all works 🙂
